Woodie/Tree peonies grow to around 3 to 4 feet tall here in Wisconsin. Unlike herbaceous peonies, they don't need to be cut down in the fall. They like a sunny location with good drainage. Woodie's have a wide range of bloom colors and bloom early in the peony bloom cycle in Week 2 of the 6 week peony bloom sequence.
They are a lovely addition to start your peony blooming season out!
Tree Peonies (Paeonia Suff.) that we will have available during the Wisconsin Arts & Peony Festival:
Maroon, Light Pink, Dark Pink, Red and Shimanishiki

Intersectional Peonies are a cross between a Woodie peony & Herbaceous Peony. They have the best attributes from both parents, the exquisite large blooms that come in a wide range of colors and the foliage comes from it's parent tree. The intersectional will die to the grown in the fall like it's herbaceous parent. The wonderful thing also it that they typically don't need to be staked. These aren't your grandmother's peonies. They are advance hybridized peonies.
Intersectional Peonies we will have available during the Wisconsin Arts & Peony Festival:

Yankee Doodle Dandy

Herbaceous Peonies never fail to impress with their bounty of blooms. The two cultivars we selected for this season is Angel Cheeks (pictured above) and Red Sarah Bernhardt. Angel Cheeks was hybridized right here in Wisconsin at the Late Song Sparrow Nursery. It's bloom style is Bomb, meaning that it has hundreds of petal. It's always a stand out here at the farm with its striking baby pink blooms that never needs staking. The other cultivar we selected is Red Sarah Bernhardt because of it's wonderful purple/red color and the leaf tips have red coloration too. Most importantly, this plant is extremely vigorous in growth and bloom production.

This rare (P. Tenuifolia) is pixie-like wild botanical fern-leaf peony is distinguished by its deeply dissected, fern-like leaves and vibrant red flowers. It forms a mound that is 18"-24" tall. This sought-after plant blooms in Week 1 of the peony blooming cycle. These plants have been hard to locate and have available for you to purchase. They won't last long as they are always the first ones buyers inquire about.
